It’s a 90 minute symphony concert. And a sing-a-long. It’s a patriotic educational event that travels through time from Massachusettes Bay to the Civil War, using music, reenactors, and audience participation, reviewing America’s history without ignoring its Christian influence. It’s meant to remind us of the signposts in our nation’s history that set us apart from the beginning.
The performance part of the program includes the sobering words of a woodworker, a British loyalist living in the Colonies and witnessing the birth of a new Nation.
“We’d seen our share of battles,” he would say. “But this swelling unrest, spanning from the genteel to the ruddy farmer of that new world, rather took us by surprise. Their discontent seemed to us a novelty; sure to fade with the mounting wretchedness of war.”
With the introduction of each new historical character, the loyalist begins to understand that these founders will not be defeated.
“They spilt their blood for more than their banner. They fought our very Crown. The idea that one man is born into royalty and another into servitude was abhorrent to them. They sought to be subject to themselves, alone, a new sort of governing: untried, untested.”
As the woodworker perceives the passion of the founders and the worth of their cause, he recognizes this assemblage of people as unique in the vast history of the world.
